Invest

Interserve co-ordinates a variety of equity investments within the healthcare environment. We identify suitable projects, select potential bid partners and work closely with our dedicated healthcare specialists to provide the optimum solution to our clients. Our understanding of the complexities of any investment is supported by the knowledge and expertise gained from managing one of the largest PFI / PPP / LIFT portfolios in the UK. We have invested £39.5 million on health projects alone and have been instrumental in raising some £1.5 billion of funding for the health sector.

An investment can include anything from raising the full funding for major PFI projects to smaller capital investments. For example, we have often invested in the restaurant facilities we operate to ensure that these areas can provide excellent modern facilities for patients, staff and visitors to enjoy on a daily basis. Our extensive experience of operating these restaurants and cafés ensures we can provide a first-class service. This ability to provide funding, however large or small, can make a real difference to the patients' experience and adds flexibility for our clients.

On many projects, we design, develop, fund and manage the life cycle replacement programmes, ensuring that the hospital remains in pristine working condition throughout the duration of our involvement and beyond.

Shared risk and reward

For capital investment projects which have been at a cost to the Trust, Interserve offers to move to a 'Risk and Reward' scheme, where both parties part-share on the capital investment as well as on the benefits and savings.

Driven by our partnership approach, we have achieved significant direct and indirect savings to Trusts through this scheme. We accept the risk for non-clinical areas of the hospital, such as staffing issues, performance standards, non-clinical health and safety and legislative requirements.

  • Our deal with The Dudley Group of NHS Foundation Trust was one of the first, second-wave projects to reach financial close and one of the first to achieve the right balance of risk specified by the NHS standard form of agreement.
  • In certain circumstances, where substantial savings have been realised, we will add extra services to our offering at no extra cost to our clients.
  • We have implemented 'Spend to Save' initiatives, looking at greater capital investment upfront to reduce the life cycle cost later on in the contract.
